Regular updates and musings on curriculum and technology in the Salisbury Township School District in Allentown, PA.
Site: Writing Fix
With our district’s initiatives of literacy and technology, this is a site that may prove useful, grades primary through high school: Writing Fix.
Here is information from the site:
“We wanted this website to inspire writers. Most on-line sites that we explored contained long (and often uninteresting) lists of topics a person could write about. Instead of boring topic-lists to inspire writing, WritingFix created unique interactive word games that put the writer in control, and keep him/her engaged. To see an example of what we mean by an interactive writing prompt from an interactive word game, visit the site and scroll down to the blue box: our instant plot creator. Click the three buttons to be given an interactive plot idea. Keep clicking the buttons until a story that you might actually write is inspired by the random choices that come up. If someone was sitting at a computer next to you clicking away as well, that person would most-likely end up with three different choices and a completely different idea for a story in his/her head. This site contains over 250 of these interactive writing prompts for writers.”
And there is much more at the site!

I wish I had taken the time to view this site earlier! Teachers are always looking for good titles to demonstrate the use of a writing trait. This site offers some of the best new titles available. The stories suggested captivate and engage young readers. The creators of this site certainly did go beyond merely offering some best practices and sure-fire winning strategies by focusing on students’ need for engagement.
