What is Text?

Ask a simple question; get a complex answer.  Here’s what students think text is: fanfiction.net, digital storytelling, eTexts; PS2, iMac, xBox; “an adventure,” “the foundation for imagination,” “yourself”; TeamSpeak, YouTube, Zune.  Text is TM, IM, TiVo, LimeWire, Google anything, iPod Video, iPhone, iChat, the Internet.  Text is a camera phone, computers, “a method of communication,” blogs and wikis; “a connection,” “indispensable,” a tangible form of your imagination.”

Text is film, forums, Audible, digital cameras, camcorders; myspace, facebook; email chess/Shockwave, ChatterBox.  Text is “better use of tech in school”; laptops, multimedia.  Text is “the window to a person’s mind,” and it still is, for many students,
a good book.  A great “text” has a way of lingering in your imagination.  What are your favorites?
