“The Leathal Gift of Livestock” An Oxymoron or a Paradox?
The title is a paradox with an oxymoron in it. The oxymoron is in the words “Lethal Gift”. The third piece of the paradox is in germs. The germs, although lethal, gave the gift of antibodies. The people that survived were those who built up the antibodies and were in turn able to pass them on. The livestock is also connected to the germs. Because domesticated livestock was “new,” people were coming in contact with many new germs that they had no immunity to. The people would either have to build up the immunities or they would most likely die.
