Emerson’s “The Young American”
The format of Emerson’s “The Young American” is his personal beliefs on the subject of trade and how it is affected by transportation. He then backs up and supports his beliefs on this subject.
The thesis can best be described by the sentence at the end of the source where he says, “the developement of our American internal resources, the extension to the utmost of the commercial system, and the appearance of new moral causes which are to modify the state, are giving an aspect of greatness to the Future.”
The supporter of common men, like Jefferson, would align with him. Both men support common people like farmers and children.
EC: You played the song because the lyrics in the song have to do with believing in the children of the future. This correlates directly with what Emerson says.
