Emerson’s “The Young American”

1. The format of “The Young American” is similar to propaganda, but seems like a persuasion of his ideas in a deconstructive essay.

2.  The article’s thesis is that America is a country that leads in power because it has oppurtunities and is open for growth.—In class we discussed that the words of Emmerson would probably state the thesis as, “America is the country of the future because it is a country of beginnings, projects, designs, and expectations”.

3. I believe that a lot of people would agree with Emerson, because he expresses such a nationalistic spirit. Paine and Jefferson’s writings seem to show that they would be similar in thinking, because they are so supportive of the common man.

*Extra credit: I believe that the song was played, because it talks about the future and how the younger generation really will decide how things become. They are the leaders that can either take the country to success or failure.
